2017 ONE Championship: Immortal Pursuit

Nov 24, 2017

Ben Askren made the walk to the cage for the final time at ONE: Immortal Pursuit on Friday morning.

After a legendary career as an amateur wrestler, the Milwaukee native turned to mixed martial arts where he’d collected championship gold on every stage he had ever competed on. Askren looked to put the final touches on what had been a flawless career when he faced Against former ONE lightweight champion Shinya Aoki in Singapore.

And that’s exactly how it will be remembered.

“Funky” closed the distance in a hurry, but it was Aoki who attempted to pull guard. Askren picked “Tobikan Judan” up off the ground before slamming him back to the canvas with force. Several punches from the top later and Aoki turtled up without defense and the referee was forced to step in.

With the win, Askren will retire 18-0 with one no-contest on his record and go down as one of the most dominant and best — if not the very best — welterweight of his day.
