One of Nebraska’s top regional promotions, Dynasty Combat Sports, returned on Saturday night for its first show of 2018. Aptly entitled “New Year Knockouts”, DCS 39 took place at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney, Nebraska. What a night it was, as twenty-four of the best amateur mixed martial artists slugged it out.

In the night’s main event, the DCS Featherweight Championship was on the line as experienced competitors Jose Hernandez (5-1) and Nate Morrow (10-7) squared off. After surviving an early takedown by Morrow at the start of the bout, Jose Hernandez rallied to close out the opening round. Carrying his momentum into the second round, Hernandez scored a flashy guillotine choke to become the new DCS Featherweight Champion.

The DCS 39 co-main event saw champion Brandon Trout (4-5) successfully defend his flyweight strap against amateur up-and-comer Helio Villegas (1-2). Midway through the second round, Trout landed a vicious head kick on his opponent that left Villegas leaning against the cage, completely unconscious. The referee had no choice, but to step in and waive off the bout.
