Lirim Bufati put on a championship performance on Saturday night.
A title and bragging rights is all it took to motivate Lenny Bufati.
The reigning welterweight champion was coming off a non-title setback in his previous showing, and was determined to cement his place back in the promotional ladder. The Brooklyn native had a tough task on his hands in Bilal Ali, but it was a challenge he was determined to overcome.
And that's precisely what he did.
Bufati employed a grappling heavy attack that put Ali on his back early and often throughout the tilt. Ali had a few moments of success in the second frame, but it was nothing Bufati couldn't navigate. Going into the third and final round Ali needed a finish to get the victory, and it was ultimately just more of the same.
Bufati controlled the action on the canvas en route to picking up the unanimous decision victory.
