Highly touted prospect Ryan MacDonald refused to be denied in his return to the cage following family tragedy.

Three months ago Ryan MacDonald was facing the biggest step of his mixed martial arts career.

After winning the first seven showings inside the cage, the 24-year-old prospect was set to compete on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series and have a chance to earn the UFC contract he's been dreaming about since his journey began.

Yet, when the unexpected came to call in the form of the sudden loss of his older brother, MacDonald was forced to step away and join his family to mourn his brother's passing.

Fast forward three months and MacDonald stepped back into the cage at MCF 14: In Memoriam to fight for the brother who motivated him to do so many things at such a young age. MacDonald has fought well beyond his years inside the cage, and his performance on Saturday night was yet another example.

The undefeated talent kept his record flawless as he pounded out a game Chad Obermiller late in the third round of action. MacDonald took the fight to the ground where he controlled the action, until he unleashed a barrage that forced the veteran to tap to strikes.

The crowd erupted in celebration, but fell silent as MacDonald gave a tear-filled speech where he thanked the Nebraska fighting community for support through the hardships he and his family has faced. It was an impressive performance by the up-and-coming fighter, but an even bigger measure of character for a combatant destined for much bigger stages in the very near future.
