Premier MMA Championship 5 brought plenty of action to FloCombat, highlighted by Carlo Prater vs. Evan Samad. Here's what went down.

UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, and World Series of Fighting veteran Carlo Prater returned to action Saturday, Nov. 18, at Premier Championship MMA 5, live on FloCombat from Covington, Kentucky.

Boasting notable career wins over former UFC and WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit, Melvin Guillard, and Pat Healy, Prater can never be counted out when the cage door locks and the fists begin to fly.

Such was the case at Premier MMA Championship 5, where Prater faced surging Ohio-based prospect Evan Samad in the night's main event.

Coming off a vicious knockout at Absolute Action MMA 47, many expected Samad to use Prater as a stepping stone to bigger fights, but the 52-fight veteran wasn't having it.

Employing a clinch-heavy game plan, Prater controlled Samad and nullified any offensive attempts for the majority of the fight's duration. It wasn't pretty, but it showed exactly the type of fight IQ and calm, collected execution that comes with competing against the world's best time after time.

While Samad did secure a takedown and work from top position late in Round 3, it wasn't enough on the judges scorecards, and Prater took home the unanimous decision victory, moving his career record to 32-19-1.

The crowd wasn't happy -- and the fight certainly could've gone either way -- but Prater escaped with a much-needed victory, while Samad fell to 3-3 in his career.
