Calvin Kattar: Dana's Crazy & I Love It

In the midst of a global pandemic, the UFC attempts to push forward to hold UFC 249 in some undisclosed location.

Fighters, fans, and media members all have their takes on whether or not the fights will (or even should) go on as planned.

Originally scheduled to fight Jeremy Stephens on the card, which was once located in Brooklyn, Calvin Kattar recently gained some extra confidence that this thing is actually going to happen.

“I was 0% on it, [now] I’m like 50% thinking it’s gonna happen,” Kattar said. “But I’ll be 100% ready either way.”

The uptick in his confidence comes at a time when a lot of people’s confidence is waning. Khabib was recently reported to be in Russia with little hope of making it to whatever location they settle on. More restrictions have been put into place on federal and state levels. For Kattar though, all he needed was the actions of his boss.

“Dana’s adding people to the card,” he said of why he recently became so much more sure. “He’s crazy and I love it.”

Of course it isn’t a surprise to Kattar, who knows that his boss is one who often looks in the face of what the public is saying or regulating bodies are saying and laughs. In part, it’s how he got to where he is now.

“What else is he going to do but be bold in a time like this and try to make something happen?” Kattar said of White’s boldness.

With that being said, Kattar did say that he was only 50% sure his fight would go on, but don’t take that as a knock on the UFC. Instead, mark it down as a knock on the fight game in general.

“As much as people try to give themselves certainty when the fights are booked, in this sport, you’re never really 100% fighting until you both step foot into the Octagon,” he says noting injuries and weigh-in misses cancelling fights. “[But] I’d rather be ready for an opportunity should it come rather than have the opportunity come and not be ready.”

And ready he will be.

You can catch Kattar’s fight… well, we have no idea when and where you can catch Kattar’s fight.
