Tyson Nam: "I'm the Biggest Puncher At 125lbs"

After an MMA career that spanned over thirteen and a half years, Tyson Nam finally got the call to achieve one of his dreams; to fight in the UFC. However, the short notice fight with Sergio Pettis didn’t exactly go as planned, as Pettis took the unanimous decision victory.

Although Nam enjoyed his debut and the bright lights of the UFC, he was a bit disappointed with the fight that he got from Pettis - namely due to the fact that Pettis didn’t seem to want any of Nam’s power.

“I knew that he was a point fighter,” Nam said. “I thought I would get him to engage in more of a street brawl, but I guess I couldn’t entice him after a couple of punches that I threw.”

Nam pointed to several of the punches he landed in the early rounds as reasons why Pettis may have wanted a different kind of fight. With that being said, he didn't judge the Roufusport fighter for his decision. In fact, he feels like it made a lot of sense.

“I feel like I tagged him a couple of times,” he shared. “I made his nose bleed, and he went back to being a point fighter, which is always a smart thing to do when someone has more power than you.”

Nam feels that may be a trend as he continues on in the flyweight division due to his level of power - a level that he feels is unmatched at 125lbs.

“I feel like I’m the biggest puncher in the flyweight division,” Nam said. “I’ll knock anybody out if I land anything fairly clean.”

Luckily for Nam, he feels like this upcoming fight will be an exception to the trend. Fighting another big puncher in New Zealand native Kai Kara-France, Nam knows the action is going to come to him for this fight. That prospect has Nam as excited as he’s been for a fight in some time.

“So exciting! I feel like it’s going to be a playground fight,” he said. “Both people think that they’re the better man, the bigger puncher.”

The way that Nam sees it this makes for a fight of the night style battle - one in which he wishes to test his best attribute with his opponent’s in a test of power shots.

“He brings a big right hand, I bring a big right hand, and we’ll see whose right hand is bigger,” Nam said.
