Wait, Kali Robbins Likes Unfrosted Pop Tarts?

Everyone loves a good nickname origin story. Whether it comes from working at Subway or a fighter’s uncanny resemblance to a popular TV figure, a good unique nickname always trumps the standard-issued "Pitbull" or "Hitman."

For Dana White’s Contender Series fighter Kali Robbins, the story of her nickname — "Pop Tart" — might not be all that crazy, but it does make for interesting introductions.

“Honestly, it’s just food cravings during fight camp,” Robbins said of where her name first made its debut.  “There’s always something. Every camp has been different.”

And one of those cravings began to seep into her social media posts more and more, which eventually led to it becoming a permanent fixture between her first and last.

“There was this one camp that all I wanted was Pop Tarts," Robbins said. "I swear to god everyone was just eating them in front of me, but I posted about it so much it just started to stick.

"So it’s really just because I’m a fatty,” she added with a laugh.

With the moniker donned on all of her social media and some of her gear, she gets the question about her favorite flavor often, and the answer is quite shocking.

“I always go for the classic. I like strawberry Pop Tarts,” Robbins said.  “But despite popular opinion — I know people are pretty crazy about the unfrosted ones and how they aren’t really real — but the unfrosted peanut butter Pop Tarts are amazing.”

Luckily for Robbins, her fighting style is far more palatable to the general public than her taste in dry, bland pastries. She’ll look to use that style to impress the boss at Dana White’s Contender Series June 18 against veteran Hannah Goldy.
