Bellator MMA has added its first lightweight fight to the stacked double-headlining weekend at the Mohegan Sun Casino next month.

Friday, Feb. 15, former Bellator MMA headliner Brandon Girtz (15-8) will return to the cage to take on surging SBG Ireland product Pedro Carvalho (9-3) at Bellator 215. Sources close to the situation confirmed the news to FloCombat late Monday night.

After kicking off his promotional career at 6-2, Girtz has been on a bit of a skid recently. Going 1-4 over his last five outings, Girtz’s losses haven’t come due to a lack of effort. The 33-year-old Minnesotan has thrilled fans with his “balls to the wall” style and finishing abilities.

In July of 2017, Girtz engaged Derek Campos in a “Fight of the Year” contender at Bellator 181. At Bellator 215, Girtz will look to rebound from a loss suffered in April to now-champion Michael Chandler.

His opponent, the Portugal-born Carvalho, will attempt to keep his perfect record alive since making the move across the world to train at SBG Ireland. Working alongside the likes of Conor McGregor, Gunnar Nelson and Artem Lobov, Carvalho has picked up five straight victories entering his United States debut against Girtz.

The 23-year-old fighter has won both of his Bellator MMA fights to date, defeating Daniel Crawford by split decision, before more recently submitting Luca Vitali at Bellator 211 last month.

Bellator 215 is headlined by a heavyweight showdown between Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov.
