With UFC São Paulo taking some hits this week, the UFC is working to add an additional bout to its lineup. FloCombat has learned a heavyweight clash between fan favorite Chase Sherman (11-5) and Bellator MMA veteran turned Contender Series signee Augusto Sakai (11-1-1, 0-0 UFC) is expected to be added to the official lineup soon. 

Coming off back-to-back losses, Mississippi’s Sherman looks to get back in the win column against the UFC debutant. Prior to suffering losses against Justin Willis and Shamil Abdurakhimov, the 28-year-old fighter defeated Damian Grabowski and Rashad Coulter.

His opponent, Sakai, earned a UFC contract on the debut episode of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series: Brazil. The 27-year-old heavyweight ran through fellow Brazilian Marcos Conrado Jr., finishing his foe in the second round via strikes. 

Before he graced the Octagon in the TUF Gym in Las Vegas, Sakai competed five times for Bellator MMA. Sakai defeated Matt Frembling, Daniel Gallemore, and Alex Huddleston, while drawing with Dan Charles. 

The Curitiba product’s lone loss came at Bellator 179 last year, when he dropped a split decision to UFC veteran Cheick Kongo.
