Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Brandon Davis Targeted For UFC 228

Inside MMA Pro League

Zabit Magomedsharipov might've found his dance partner for Sept. 8's UFC 228 in Dallas. Sources confirm to FloCombat that Mississippi slugger Brandon Davis is expected to step up on short notice to take on the 15-1 Russian standout.

Davis himself strongly hinted at the news on Twitter Tuesday.

Originally slated to fight Yair Rodriguez, Magomedsharipov was left without an opponent when the Mexican fighter suffered an injury earlier this month.

Last competing at UFC 223 in Brooklyn this past April, Magomedsharipov defeated a game Kyle Bochniak in a spectacular fight. Prior to the bout in New York, Magomedsharipov defeated Sheymon Moraes and Mike Santiago to kick off his UFC tenure.

With that run, Magomedsharipov is one of the most hyped prospects in the UFC's featherweight division, making a showdown with Davis a can't-miss scrap.

The Alan Belcher MMA product Davis isn’t a stranger to short-notice fights. Earlier this year, Davis took back-to-back fights in less than one month’s time.

The 28-year-old featherweight has gone 1-2 thus far in his UFC tenure, defeating Steven Peterson and losing to Kyle Bochniak and Enrique Barzola.
