Heavyweight Gold, Homegrown Talent Set To Shine At Warfare 17

When it comes to putting together a mixed martial arts show in South Carolina, few promotions can claim to bring the ruckus like Warfare MMA. President Andy Hall lines up some of the best rising talent the state has to offer and will tap into the surrounding areas to put on the best event possible.

Warfare 17 will keep his string of high-octane events rolling strong.

The action kicks off Friday night at 6 PM EDT live from the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC, and exclusively on FloCombat.com.

Let’s take a look at why Warfare 17 is an event you don’t want to miss.

Battle of the Big Guns

There is nothing more exciting in the MMA realm than when two heavyweights step in to handle business inside the cage. It gets even more electric when there is championship gold on the line, and that is what's at stake in the main event at Warfare 17.

Undefeated fan favorite Marvin Skipper will meet fellow unbeaten Tabaris Gordon in the center of the cage and let the leather fly with reckless abandon. Skipper has plenty of power to end the action in one shot, but the South Carolina native has proven capable of finishing his opposition on the canvas as well.

All but one of Skipper’s victories have come by way of submission, which makes him extremely dangerous wherever the fight may go. Gordon, on the other hand, prefers his ruckus dealt while on the feet.

After mixed results in the amateur ranks, Gordon has found his groove as a professional. The hard-hitting heavyweight has won both of his showings as a pro, with both fights ending by TKO finish. Gordon will be looking to add Skipper to his list of victims on Friday night and snatch a bit of championship gold in the process.

The last thing Skipper plans to allow is an opponent into his backyard to take his glory, and those circumstances will combine to make the main event at Warfare 17 a shootout to remember.

Homegrown Killers

One of the best features on any Warfare card is the homegrown talent that participates under the promotional banner.

Past champions and highlight makers such as UFC veteran Justin Scoggins and soon-to-be big league brother Jared, not to mention his super-prospect wife Hannah, have all competed inside the Warfare cage in the past, and there are plenty more up-and-comers to keep an eye on this weekend.

On the prospect side of things, Kennith Porter is an athlete to put on your radar. The rising bantamweight trains with the aforementioned Scoggins collective at Revolution MMA in Spartanburg and appears to have an extremely bright future in the violent arts.

The 26-year-old scrapper had a successful amateur run, but one that saw him work out a few kinks in his overall game in the process. Porter made his professional debut back in July when he earned a unanimous decision over Austin McCray at NFC 97.

Porter will face James Ronsick in his next outing Friday night and will look to duplicate what Brandon Bushaw did against Ronsick his last time out.

Speaking of “The Dream Killer,” one of the most exciting fighters under the Warfare banner gets back to work on Saturday night.

The former Michigan State wrestler turned mixed martial artist put a drubbing on Ronsick at Warfare 16 back in August. Bushaw scored a thunderous first-round stoppage in the bout and notched his second consecutive victory in the process.

While Bushaw’s overall record as a pro is 3-2, it’s a deceptive record as the Maine native has consistently stepped in against tough competition. In fact, his only loss in recent years came at the hands of another super prospect in Dylan Cala when the two squared off at Warfare 14 back in 2015. Since suffering that setback Bushaw has been a force inside the cage, and all signs point to a potential fight of the night scrap when he throws hands with Zac Cooper on Friday night.

When Bushaw is on a card, one doesn’t have to search to far to find his friend and teammate Amos Collins.

The dynamic duo has twice competed in team MMA competitions — winning both in impressive fashion. Obviously each man will compete in individual bouts on Friday night, but Collins will also be looking to keep his momentum rolling strong. “The Titanium Warrior” has won two of his last three showings inside the cage, with his most recent victory coming back in May when he made Eric Calderon tap to strikes in the second round of their tilt.

Last but not least, the bout between Cee Jay Hamilton and Ryan Hollis will be one to keep an eye on as well. Both fighters are top-ranked flyweights in their respective states and that should make for an action-packed squabble once things go live on FloCombat.
