The race for Bellator's heavyweight title is officially set and things are about to get real in 2018.

A collection of the biggest names and heaviest hitters under the Bellator banner have been slated for an eight-man Grand Prix tournament, with the winner claiming the promotion's vacant heavyweight strap. 

ESPN reported the official news on Wednesday, while also announcing the bout between Chael Sonnen and Quinton Jackson to kick things off on Jan 20.


In addition to "Rampage" and "The American Gangster", the list of competitors is a whose who that includes MMA legends the likes of Fedor Emelianenko and Frank Mir, who are also slated to face another in the opening round.

A pair of former UFC heavyweights turned Bellator stars will collide in a rematch from their Octagon days as Roy Nelson and Matt Mitrione will sling leather on Feb. 16.

Current light heavyweight champion Ryan Bader will square off with Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal in the tournament's May installment to close out the opening round.
