Nik Lentz Talks Situation With American Top Team: 'It's F*cked Up'

Nik Lentz won a hard-fought victory over Will Brooks at UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney this past weekend, but that wasn’t the end of the story by any means. “The Carny” had more to say when the fight was all said and done, and the focus of Lentz's ire was his old squad at American Top Team.

Lentz spent several years training at the Coconut Creek, FL, facility but decided to break away for a change of scenery back in May. Lentz eventually landed at Hard Knocks under trainer Henri Hooft, and all appeared calm on both sides of the aisle between the fighter and his former crew.

That was until the gritty veteran was paired up with the ATT staple Brooks in a matchup that was initially slated for UFC 216 in October.

A medical issue would force Lentz out of the fight, but a swift rebooking of the tilt pitted Lentz and the former Bellator champion against one another in Sydney. Lentz would go on to defeat Brooks via guillotine submission in the second round of the bout and used a post-fight interview with MMA Junkie to speak his mind — and issue a challenge — to ATT's current members.

“I’ve always come to fight regardless,” Lentz said. “Hurt, injured... I’ve made mistakes in my career, but I’ve always come to fight. This was one of the first times in my career I’ve ever had a serious medical issue, and my old team threw it in my face like, ‘Hey, you’re running. You’re scared.’ Not one of them messaged me to check on me or anything you know?

“I have to admit that hurts. That’s supposed to be my family. For everyone to throw it under the bus like it’s not this big a deal like I’m afraid of Will Brooks. I’m gonna have to put my wife on lockdown because if she sees Will Brooks’ wife she’s gonna knock her out for talking shit. I’m telling ya... my wife is meaner than I am.

“When it comes down to it… it was f*cked up. There’s no two ways to put it. It’s f*cked up when your old family throws you under the bus and says you’re scared because I ain’t scared of Will Brooks. I ain’t scared of anyone at ATT. And just like I said... I got $50,000 to bet there’s no one at ATT that can come even close to beating Nik Lentz.”

When MMA Junkie lead reporter John Morgan asked for further clarification as to whether or not Lentz wanted side bets with ATT founder Dan Lambert on each potential fight, the Minnesota native didn’t hesitate to double down on the challenge at hand.

“That’s what I want… $50,000 on the table every time,” Lentz said. “I told you I don’t care. Bottom to the top just like Mortal Kombat.”
