Thomas Almeida is preparing to return to the Octagon.

Scheduled to face Rob Font at UFC 220 next January in Boston, “Thominhas” has the tough task to get out of a skid that has seen him lose two of his last three bouts. Starting with his next fight, Almeida wants to get back to what brought him into the UFC and close to the top at bantamweight: A relentless fighting style that has once seen him score 21 successive wins.

The same could be said to describe his opponent, though. Having finished ten of his 14 professional victories, Font is a dangerous foe for anyone at 135 pounds. But that’s not something that is fazing Almeida.

"Well, my strategy is to make him dance to my music," Almeida said. “Put him where I am good, put him in my game and my game is this: I’ll be prepared for any situation. I train very hard, so wherever the fight goes, I’ll be calm. And I want to put him in my game, I want to show the Thomas that I always was.

"I'm very anxious and very happy with this fight. And for this fight, I am prepared for any situation. I'm not in a hurry, I'll let [a finish] happen. I always like to keep the fight going a little longer because I believe it's what my fans like to see and I always try to do what my fans like. So, it's a very tough fight, there’ll be a lot of striking, very exciting. I want to let it run and see what will happen."

Unbeaten as a pro until he faced now former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, Almeida has now lost two of his last three with a decision loss to Jimmie Rivera in July. But even after producing so much hype and then struggling, that’s not going to keep him down.

"I learned from my losses that no fighter is invincible," he said. “We have to be always improving. I think the sport has evolved a lot, everyone has evolved and seeks more and more. You can’t stay still. It never stops, you have to be always evolving, seeking to learn new things and that in all areas. MMA is a very broad sport, you have several ways to end a fight or to continue the fight. So, you always have to be very well prepared and always be looking to evolve."

"I believe there is no pressure”, Almeida said. “There’ll be the same pressure as in all the other fights, because all fights have pressure. My intention is to win, to give my best, to show my work there, but I think that's it. The result of other fights will not interfere with any of this, I'll just go in there and do my job."
