UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum had an eventful week, which came back around when he secured a decision win in the main event on Saturday night.

The bout served as the main event of UFC Fight Night 121 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Both men remained patient and exchanged their shots in the middle of the cage throughout the first round. The battle for position continued, with Tybura holding Werdum’s back at the end of the round.

The patience continued in Round 2, with Werdum controlling the center of the Octagon. As the action slowed, both men continued to look for their openings. Werdum ended the round with a wild flurry and head kick which left Tybura back-peddaling.

Werdum continued to get the better of the two as the fight continued, landing a takedown midway through the fourth round to establish his control. Werdum transitioned into mount and began working on an arm triangle as the fourth round continued. Werdum let the submission go and the two men continued to circle as the round expired.

Throughout the remainder of the fight, Werdum continued to push his pace while Tybura was countering and continuing to push forward.

Werdum ended with a flurry, while Tybura raised his fans in satisfaction.

When the final bell sounded, Werdum earned a unanimous decision victory over  Marcin Tybura (50-45, 50-45, 49-46).

Werdum (23-7-1) was fresh off of an October submission victory over Walt Harris, which took only 65 seconds before the fight-ending armbar. He then called for a shot at the title.

Tybura (16-2) was riding a three-fight winning streak, including two (T)KOs, but must now go back to the drawing board.
