When it rains it pours, and fight fans lost another great scrap when news of Dominick Cruz suffering an injury went public on Wednesday.

The former bantamweight king was initially slated to face surging upstart Jimmie Rivera at UFC 219 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, but a broken arm suffered in training has forced him out of the tilt. The news was initially reported by MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani on Twitter.

The matchup with Rivera was one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year, as it marked "The Dominator's" first bout since losing his 135-pound crown at UFC 207 last December. Cruz was slated to face Rivera, a newly minted contender currently riding a 20-fight winning streak. A victory over Rivera would have put Cruz right back into the bantamweight title hunt, while a win over a former champion like Cruz would have further cemented Rivera's place among the elite.

There's been no word of an official replacement for Cruz in the matchup, but the UFC is looking for a new opponent for Rivera at this time.
