Dillon Danis Suspended From BJJ Gym, Marcelo Garcia Explains

Dillon Danis may be looking toward future stardom in MMA, but the 23-year-old has already accomplished that task in the world of jiu-jitsu.

The recently signed Bellator fighter and teammate of Conor McGregor is one of the most visible people in jiu-jitsu and made a quick name in the sport with a monster ground game. Danis is also a veteran in submission only grappling and has become a staple of the Submission Underground series on FloGrappling.

Danis was victorious in his superfight vs AJ Agazarm back in January, and is scheduled to face Jake Shields in a no-gi superfight on May 14.

That said, with grappling dates still on his calendar and a MMA debut figured to come in late 2017, things appear to be coming to a head in Danis' world.

Longtime coach and Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Marcelo Garcia recently released a video explaining why Danis and teammate Mansher Kera were asked to take time off from the team.

"I realize people was focused just on social media, was focussed on other stuff that everyone is aware about -- fame, stuff like that. And that really forced me to take a decision.

"I don't kick people out. I really don't want to do that. I told them to take some time off, figure out, one day if they have a better thought, they come here and I'll be here and we'll talk."

Garcia continued, "I wish my black belts were doing the best they can to follow the examples that take people to a better place. That didn't happen, and I felt even got worst each time I take a week off, something happen. I take a weekend off, something else happened.

"It's really hard for me to come home -- because this [the gym] is my home -- and to see they don't appreciate the same values that I have, they're not being the example I want people here to have."
