4 Reasons To Watch Conquer FC 3

FloSports Conquer-Fighting-Championships-3

Conquer FC 3 takes place at the Craneway Pavilion in South Richmond, California this Saturday night live on FloCombat. Along with some notable UFC and Bellator veterans rounding out the card, former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson will be laying down commentary duties on the broadcast. Here are three reasons to watch.

UFC vs. Bellator in the main event

TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero looks to get back on the winning track when he faces five-time Bellator veteran Fabrício Guerreiro in the main event. Escudaro (26-12) was handed his pink slip from the UFC last year following two-straight losses to Leandro Silva and Kevin Lee.

The 31-year-old has since gone 2-1 after his UFC release and heads into this matchup off a unanimous decision setback to Akhmet Aliev at Fight Nights Global 59 last month. Guerreiro (21-4) fought the likes of Patricio Freire and Frodo Khasbulaev during his Bellator tenure and also holds a win over UFC lightweight Desmond Green.

The 26-year old is coming off a first round submission victory over former UFC featherweight Will Chope back in January. This is an important matchup for The MMA lab standout Escudero if he wants to remain relevant in the lightweight picture, while Guerreiro looks to add another win over a UFC veteran to his resume.

Simon has his sights on the UFC

Bantamweight prospect Ricky Simon looks to build a stronger case for a UFC contract as he battles former Bellator standout Shawn Bunch. Simon (8-1) bounced back in his last fight earning a unanimous decision win over Eduardo Torres at KOTC: Heavy Trauma, competing in a weight class above at featherweight.

The 24-year old has four of his eight wins by knockout and looks for his second straight win this year. His only loss was in a vacant bantamweight title showdown against Anderson dos Santos at Titan FC 37 last year. Bunch (6-3) was surprisingly released from Bellator after amassing a 4-2 record with the promotion - with one of those losses coming to bantamweight title challenger Darrion Caldwell.

At 33-years old, it's now or never for the Pan American Wrestling standout if he wants to make another run with a bigger promotion. Should Simon get the win here, expect a potential call up from the UFC in the near future.

AKA vs. Team Nogueira

American Kickboxing Academy product John Cardenas looks to keep his unblemished record intact as he takes on Antonio Roberto in a featherweight affair.

Cardenas (2-0) made his pro debut in November 2016 and has won both of his professional fights by stoppage. Roberto (4-3) who goes by the nickname 'Tony Fox' makes his North American debut and trains at the prestigious Team Nogueira camp. The Rio de Janeiro native hasn't competed since a 39 second knockout victory over Júlio Carreiro in November 2015, so cage rust may be a factor in this one.

The Arrival of Deron Winn

Former 2X Junior College wresting champion and Olympic trial qualifier Deron Winn makes his professional MMA debut on Saturday night against Mike Morales. Not only is it a rare thing to see a fighter make their debut against such an experienced opponent, but with Winn training out of AKA with the likes of UFC champion Daniel Cormier and highly touted Bellator prospect Ed Ruth there is a lot of hype surrounding his potential.

Squaring off against an experienced competitor the likes of Morales will provide an accurate gauge of just how ready Winn is for bigger stages, and that is what mixed martial arts is all about.
