Donald Cerrone Wants Tyron Woodley After He Takes Out Jorge Masvidal

Donald Cerrone has a fight booked at UFC on Fox 23 on Jan. 28, but he's a man who already has his eyes on his next step.

The lightweight-turned-welterweight hasn't fought for a UFC title since his first attempt against Rafael dos Anjos in December 2015, but Cerrone believes a win against Jorge Masvidal will put him at the front of the queue in the welterweight fray. From there, a shot at champion Tyron Woodley awaits.

Suffice to say, Cerrone is a man with a plan, and he laid it all out during a TV appearance in Colorado on Thursday.

"[Masvidal] is a good wrestler and striker, boxer, but he's not really great at anything," Cerrone said. "I'm better than him everywhere. I'm going to go out there and put a show on for the hometown crowd. It's for you [the viewers] at home--the working class.

"I told whoever it is--I'll be number one contender then. Let's go in March [and keep] it rolling."

When asked to confirm whether he really wanted to fight Woodley on such short notice, Cerrone didn't hesitate for a second.

"In March--that's the plan," he said.

Cerrone last fought just three weeks ago against Matt Brown at UFC 206, where Cerrone won via a stunning head-kick knockout in the third round. Asked why he wanted to get back in the Octagon so quickly, Cerrone explained that it was all about the show coming to Denver, CO.

"When I heard it [UFC] was coming home, I said I have to fight at the Pepsi Center," Cerrone said. "I said I have to fight at home and do what I love.

"I feel like a wolf amongst the sheep. I love it man. This is what I love to do. I know it sounds cliché, but this is what I was born to do. I love sitting here talking to you, the ride, the journey, the walkout and blowing the roof off the Pepsi Center. I'm going to enjoy every second of it."

Anyone thinking that Cerrone would rest up between the two fights better think again. He confirmed he recently hunted over the holiday season and that he was still living his life at 100 miles per hour between fight camps.

"Two days ago we were duck hunting," Cerrone said. "If someone call me and says, 'Hey, I'm in New York, let's go to the PBR tomorrow,' if my flight's canceled, then we go snowboarding. It's a whirlwind life we lead, man. It's fun, and I love it."
