Today is the day -- Nick Diaz is officially no longer serving a ban from competitive mixed martial arts and is now free to fight once again.
Diaz breathed a huge sigh of relief on January 13th when the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) overturned his original five-year ban and reduced it to only 18 months for failing a post-fight drug test for his UFC 183 fight against Anderson Silva in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With the ban backdated to January 2015, Diaz has now served the full 18-month ban and fans will no doubt be rejoicing that he is now back in the fold.
The big question now is what exactly do the UFC do with Diaz now he is back as an active member of the roster? Speaking to MMA Mayhem TV back in January, Diaz was adamant himself that if he was to return to the Octagon, it would only be for a 'big' fight.
"I am just working on the rest of the people I am training with on their camps, then we will establish who I will be fighting next," Diaz said back in January. "I am only trying to go big, though, I am not trying to do no small fights. So, if we're going to do any fights, we are going to do something big. But, for now, I am focusing on my younger brother and the rest of the academy in northern California, the team I train with, Team Black."
A lot of water of water has gone under the bridge since Diaz made those comments but one thing that hasn't ever changed is his desire to stay in peak physical fitness. Judging by some of the photos he's shared on his Instagram over the past few months, Diaz has been keeping in a very good shape, something has no doubt been aided by his fondness of triathlons.

With the next foreseeable pay-per-view cards already taking shape, Diaz's may be looking at a blockbuster return at the UFC's first ever show in New York City on November 12th as his big stage to return.
Suffice to say, for the minute, Nick's attentions will be on helping his brother prepare for his upcoming fight with Conor McGregor at UFC 202 on August 20th. Nick and the rest of the 'Skrap Pack' will likely be in close proximity of his Nate all week given the trouble that went down at the UFC 196 weigh-ins earlier in March when Nick, alongside the likes of Jake Shields, all rushed the stage after the staredown scuffle.
For the minute, the news is simply that the #FreeNickDiaz campaign is over -- Nick Diaz is free.
