Carlos Condit Returns, Faces Demian Maia at UFC 202
Former UFC interim champion Carlos Condit will make his return against Demian Maia at UFC 202

Carlos Condit isn’t ready to walk away from the fight game.
The former WEC and UFC interim welterweight champion suggested his battle with Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 would be his last. Condit publicly stated he wanted a rematch or he would call it a day, but it seems he’s changed his mind.
The Albuquerque native is slated to face Demian Maia at UFC 202 on Aug. 20 in Las Vegas, in a battle between two perennial title threats in the 170-pound division. The news was released by the promotion on Tuesday afternoon.

While Condit is coming off a loss in his most recent showing, many in the MMA community believed the nod should have gone the other way. Nevertheless, Condit is now ready to jump back into the mix, and he’ll face an opponent with momentum in Maia.
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace will come into the bout riding a five-fight winning streak where he’s notched some of the most impressive performances of his career. Maia’s most recent victory came against Matt Brown at UFC 198, where the submission ace forced the Ohio native to tap in the final frame.
With today’s news the UFC 202 continues to stack up. The main event will feature the long awaited rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, in addition to two high profile tilts in the light heavyweight and welterweight divisions with Anthony Johnson vs. Glover Teixeira and Rick Story vs. Donald Cerrone being announced earlier this week.
