Michael Chiesa is the latest fighter to fall victim to the injury bug.

The Ultimate Fighter winner turned surging lightweight was slated to face Tony Ferguson in the main event at Fight Night 91 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on July 13. The matchup has been scratched as Chiesa posted on his Twitter account he’s been forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury. The news was initially reported by MMAJunkie and FloCombat has since confirmed the news with sources close to the fighter.

While there has been no word as to who his new opponent will be, Ferguson is no stranger to dealing with twists and turns thrown his way. Chiesa’s removal marks three consecutive bouts involving Ferguson that have been affected by injury, and that series of setbacks has cooled his run toward title contention in the lightweight division.

Ferguson is currently riding a seven-fight winning streak and enjoying a run that is bringing a shot at the 155-pound title into focus. In order to reach his goal Ferguson will need to lock down a few more quality wins, and it will be interesting to see who steps up to face him in Sioux Falls.
