With his days at Hogwarts long behind him Josh Herdman has forged a new career as a mixed martial artist.

The actor who is best known for his role as Gregory Goyle, the trusted sidekick of Draco Malfoy, set his acting career aside for to try his hand at one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The 28-year-old Slytherin alum won his amateur debut by defeating Janusz Walachowski at an event held in London.

While Herdman hasn’t closed the door on a return to acting, his current passion is competing inside the cage.  Herdman talked to MMA Blog Addicted OTR about his transition into combat sports.

“I’m doing it because I enjoy it, but I also take it very seriously. It’s in my family’s blood. I like competing and pushing my boundaries. I chose MMA because I love the sport. It’s raw, exciting and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jiu-jitsu training.”
