With 2015 drawing to a halt, it makes sense to look back at the stellar year of boxing we had. Over the course of the next week, FloBoxing will be breaking down the best fights and knockouts of 2015. In this installment, we will be looking at top 5 knockouts in professional boxing this year.

5. Liam Smith Wins WBO Title in Spectacular Fashion

Liam Smith comes from a fighting family, SmithÂ’s brothers are all professional fighters, so it should come as no surprise that the Liverpool, England native is as tough as nails. When Smith faced John Thompson for the WBO Light Middleweight title, few could have foreseen the incredible beating that Smith would put on the talented American.

In the 7th round of the fight, SmithÂ’s high pressure finally paid dividends. After cutting off the ring, Smith landed a straight-right which was a thing of beauty that caused Thompson to face plant.

4. Anthony Crolla Ends PerezÂ’ Title Reign Brutally

What a rollercoaster 12 months it has been for Anthony Crolla. Coming into 2015, many had pegged Crolla for success, the Brit had his title shot read and was just weeks away from the biggest fight of his life before tragedy struck. Just weeks before his fight, Crolla confronted two people who were burgling his neighbor's house. In the ensuing melee,  Crolla broke his ankle and suffered a fractured skull.

CrollaÂ’s woes would be compounded as he drew with Darleys Perez in his comeback fight. Crolla would end 2015 on a high however, as he leveled Perez with the perfect livershot to take home the gold in November.

3. Erkan Teper Puts Price to Sleep

When an Olympic medalist turns professional there is always a great deal of hype surrounding them and this was the case with David Price. After the Beijing Olympics, Price put together a 15-0 record before dropping 2 fights to Tony Thompson, after rebounding with some good victories he was pitted against military man, Erkan Teper in Germany. Teper was an unknown quantity and the fight went for from what was expected by the Brit.

Following a dominant first round, Teper smelt blood on his opponent and cleverly pressured Price. The end came when Teper uncorked a powerful overhand right before rendering Price unconscious with a pinpoint left hook.

2.  Amir Imam Dazzles Against  Fernando Angulo

There are few things as special as watching an emerging talent finally begin to come into his own. In 2015, we saw shades of the fighter that Amir Imam could one day be and even though he suffered his first defeat in his last fight, ImamÂ’s 2015 will be best remembered for the beating he put on Fernando Angulo.

As knockouts go, there was nothing flashy about this one. After picking apart Angulo for 4 rounds, Imam finally halted proceedings with a 1 2 that put his opponent straight to sleep. Angulo was out for a long time, which further illustrates that mastery of the basics is all a fighter needs.

1. Canelo Scores Knockout of the Year Over Kirkland

When two top tier talents face each other in the ring there is always a great sense of anticipation and that was certainly the case in may. Coming into his fight with
Kirkland, Canelo was still trying to exorcise the lingering memories of his defeat to Floyd Mayweather and in James Kirkland he was giving a big name to showcase his skills against.

James Kirkland began this fight in his usual aggressive style, but his unhinged nature would be his undoing. The ever-accurate Canelo masterfully crafted a piece of art, KirklandÂ’s face his canvas. As the fight went on, Canelo landed harder and harder before finishing the fight with one of the most brutal right hands of all time.
