Along with a pair of Bellator veterans headlining the card, this event also features plenty of up-and-coming talent, including Rafael Velado defending his amateur lightweight title. Here are three primary reasons to watch NEF 29.

 

Bellator veterans clash in the main event

Alexndre "Popo" Bezerra looks to avoid two straight losses for the first time in his career as he battles fellow Bellator vet Ray Wood.

Bezerra (19-5) last saw action in the main event of Titan FC 41 in September, where he suffered a unanimous decision setback to then featherweight champion Andre Harrison. The 29-year-old fighter boasts 12 career wins by submission and five by knockout. Bezerra will be making his promotional debut.

Wood (8-3) returns to NEF for the first time since 2015 and heads into this matchup on a two-fight skid. The 28-year-old went 1-2 under the Bellator banner, earning a knockout win over Chris Jones and suffering back-to-back losses against Adam Piccolotti and AJ Mckee Jr. This is a pivotal matchup for both featherweight fighters as a win would undoubtedly propel them back to the big show.

Domination Tour Continues

Dominic "Domination" Jones looks to keep his unblemished record intact when he battles "Ken Doll" Matt Denning.

Jones (1-0) made an impressive professional MMA debut in April, earning a first-round knockout over Tollison Lewis at NEF 28.  The 23-year-old featherweight went 5-1 in his amateur career and also won the Breakthrough MMA bantamweight title in 2015.

Denning (4-6) snapped a four-fight skid in his last bout, earning a first-round submission win over Josh Parker at NEF 28. The Auburn, Maine, native will have the home crowd on his side as he looks for his first two-fight winning streak since 2015.

 

Lightweight Gold on the Line

Amateur lightweight champion Rafael Velado looks for his fifth straight win when he squares off with undefeated Pat Kelly.

Velado (4-0) won the title in his last fight, submitting Jimmy Jackson in the first round at NEF 25: Heroes and Villains back in September. The 38-year-old has only gone the distance once in his career and will ultimately look to take this to the canvas where he boasts three of his four wins by submission.

Kelly (3-0) competes for the first time since 2015 and has won all of his fights by stoppage, including two wins by knockout and one by submission. Expect the winner of this matchup to make the jump to the pro-ranks.
