Shamrock FC 308 brought the heat live to FloCombat Saturday, Aug. 18. Here's what went down.
Live from Kansas City, Missouri, the Shamrock FC 308 featured a main event showcase between the undefeated American Top Team product Johnny Eblen and Bellator veteran Wayman Carter. In the the co-main event, Ivey Nixon took on Montrel James in an action-packed fight, giving fans a double dose of MMA goodness at the top of the card.
Before the fight, Eblen said he wanted to make name for himself in the regional circuit, and he fought the toughest challenge of his career to date against former Bellator, LFA, and Titan FC fighter Carter.
While Carter owned the experience advantage, Eblen wasted no time, taking Wayman to the ground and controlling the pace of the fight. On the mat, Carter was simply no match for the undefeated prospect. Eblen locked in a deep guillotine choke, forcing Carter to tap and bringing an end to the night's festivities.
The co-main event didn’t disappoint either, with Nixon and James trading heat in the opening minute of the fight. Nixon then took down James, where he worked for the submission, transitioning from triangle to armbar. To his credit, James defended the positions well, eventually standing back up to pressure Nixon against the cage.
In Round 2, James hurt Nixon with a solid right hook and followed up the strike with a takedown. From there, James worked for an armbar, but Nixon escaped and they again returned to the feet to trade blows until the round's end.
In the final round, Nixon appeared to be the fresher fighter, moving forward with his jab and clinching to land knees on his opponent. After hitting the mat once more, James looked to have the submission he needed from the bottom as he locked in a triangle, but it was not to be. Nixon escaped and worked from top position, throwing hard shots to close the round and the fight.
In the end, the judges scored the unanimous decision for Nixon.
