Bellator 160: Benson Henderson Stops Patricio Freire in Freak Turn
Bellator 160 Results: Strange Turns Lands Benson Henderson Title Shot
Bellator 160 took place Friday night from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and aired in prime
time live and free on SPIKE TV.

The main event featured a lightweight title eliminator fight between former Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire and former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson for the opportunity to face current Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler.

Patricio Freire jumped up from featherweight to challenge Henderson and take one step closer to avenging his brother’s vicious knockout loss at the hands of Chandler earlier this year. Henderson is seeking to complete the nearly impossible task of securing a world title in a third major MMA organization and a win over Freire would put him one step closer to that goal.

Henderson’s size advantage was very evident as soon as the two men faced off. In the first round Freire found his range early on, landing numerous punches and kicks. Henderson was not using his length or reach advantage in the first stanza. After a lack of action the crowd showed it displeasure by booing loudly as the round came to an uneventful close.

The second round opened the same way the first round ended, with Henderson controlling the cage but not
inflicting any damage to his much smaller opponent. After a brief takedown attempt and failed back take and transition, Freire landed a solid two punch
combo but immediately turned his back, walked away and stopped the fight mid round after suffering an undisclosed injury to his right leg.

After the lackluster fight and freak ending, Henderson will ultimately get his wish as it was announced that he is now scheduled to face Chandler on November 19th
for the Bellator lightweight championship.
