CM Punk could make his MMA return in 2017.

First in the pile of evidence is Punk himself telling Fox Sports back in January he is "feverishly" working to get a fight.

"I'm throwing names at Dana (White), opponents, dates," Punk said. "I don't know if he's waiting for a Chicago show or what the deal is, but if it doesn't happen in the UFC, it will happen somewhere else."

On Monday, Punk's coach Duke Roufus took things up a notch with a quick post on Instagram

Roufus keeps tabs on his fighters and their performances inside the cage, and Punk's name popped up among those making appearances in 2017.

Who, oh who, could it be? And when? And where?

Unfortunately with Punk, there are still only questions and no answers. His UFC debut ended disastrously against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September 2016. Gall has gone on to look impressive in his UFC career, following up his Punk victory with a win over Sage Northcutt via submission.

It's clear Gall is no joke, and Punk will certainly need a step down for his sophomore appearance.
