As next month's fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather draws closer, mixed martial artists and boxers are continuing to blur the line separating their two sports.

While McGregor will strap on bigger gloves and face Mayweather under boxing rules in August 26's mega-fight in Las Vegas, there is one high-profile boxing champion who is more than willing to travel in the opposite direction to get a crack at the Irish superstar.

Rising star and Olympic gold medal-winning pugilist Vasyl Lomachenko took to Twitter to issue a challenge to McGregor and clearly state his willingness to make the fight under MMA rules. The Ukranian fighter has already made a strong name on the biggest stages in the boxing world, but a background in wrestling and sambo have Lomachenko sitting in a much different position than the large majority of his peers in the sweet science.

Well known for his unconventional striking, speed, creativity, and ability to throw from all angles, Lomachenko's offensive attack has the potential to transition to MMA very well. And if his grappling background holds up, that makes him an interesting stylistic matchup for the versatile Dublin native.

Where the idea of such a bout would be nothing more than fodder a year ago, the upcoming bout between McGregor and Mayweather has changed that narrative entirely. And if the trend of boxer versus MMA fighter is to continue, fight fans could certainly get behind a talented boxer taking the challenge of stepping into the cage to face one of the best MMA practitioners in the world.
