Bellator NYC Results: Brent Primus Wins Title From Michael Chandler
Brent Primus defeated Michael Chandler in one round at Bellator NYC--but the result was anything but ordinary.
Brent Primus is leaving New York City with some gold around his waist.
The undefeated lightweight defeated Michael Chandler in one round at Bellator NYC, but the result was anything but ordinary.
Primus took the fight to Chandler early on, hammering him with leg kicks and injuring his foe's leg. While Chandler was clearly hobbled--and a replay showed a disgusting rolled ankle--he didn't give in, rocking Primus with a massive shot to swing the momentum back in his favor.
The output was short-lived, however, as Chandler once again buckled, forcing the doctor to intervene. After a brief checking out process, Chandler was determined unable to continue, awarding Primus the victory via TKO (doctor's stoppage).
After the fight, Chandler was still hyped and ready to go in his post-fight speech, saying simply, "I cannot wait to get back in this cage."
To that end, Primus extended the offer of a rematch, and Chandler accepted, telling Primus he better "train his ass off" to prepare for the oncoming storm.
While the ending was unfortunate, the action we did get to see set one hell of a stage for the rematch, and we fully expect some bad blood to rev things further as the fight approaches.
