A lightweight matchup between Anthony Pettis and Jim Miller is being targeted for July 8's UFC 213 fight card in Las Vegas. 

Combate first reported the news, and FloCombat confirmed with sources close to the situation.

Pettis, the former UFC lightweight champion, recently dropped to featherweight for a two-fight stint in which he went 1-1, most recently losing via TKO to current interim featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 206. 

Now back at lightweight, Pettis is expected to face Miller, a 38-fight veteran who himself is coming off a majority-decision loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 208.

With 26 fights under the UFC banner to his name, Miller is one of the most seasoned fighters on the roster, and his scraps rarely disappoint. The New Jersey native has won Fight of the Night honors six times, Submission of the Night three times, and Fight of the Year once, that one for his epic clash against Joe Lauzon at UFC 155 in 2012. 

Despite his experience and longevity, Miller never reached the heights Pettis has. In August 2013, Pettis won the UFC lightweight title at UFC 164, defeating then-champ Benson Henderson via armbar in one round. After that, Pettis defended the title with another submission, this time a guillotine against Gilbert Melendez, and many thought he'd be the next long-tenured king at lightweight. 

Rafael dos Anjos put an end to that at UFC 185, battering Pettis for five rounds, and sending him on his current skid, of which he's lost three of four. 

Should the bout come to fruition as anticipated, one man will throw himself right back into the mix in the talent-rich 155-pound class.
