Woodley Out To Prove He's The Greatest, Not Talk About GSP
Tyron Woodley is fully focused on Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson and refuses to talk about GSP or Michael Bisping
It’s UFC 209 fight week, but the fight everyone is talking about right now is Michael Bisping defending his UFC middleweight title against a returning George St-Pierre—well almost everyone that is.
Speaking yesterday ahead of his UFC welterweight title defense against Stephen Thompson this Saturday, champion Tyron Woodley refused to give his thoughts on the Bisping and St-Pierre fight saying his 100-percent attention was on this fight Saturday and nothing else.
“Don’t ask me about GSP,” Woodley said. “Nobody ask me about GSP and Bisping. That s*it happened to me when I was fighting Rory the first time, talking about Matt Brown and Robbie Lawler and my focus left that fight and I didn’t show up to work that evening.
“If you ask me that question I apologize but I will not answer. Wonderboy is a tough opponent and he deserves my respect and deserves my attention. That’s the fight I signed for and that’s the fight I’m doing this weekend. Unfortunately, I will not answer any questions about GSP or Michael Bisping.”
With Woodley’s focus 100-percent on the fight on Saturday and cementing his place as the number one welterweight champion in the world, he then reminded everyone of his long term ambitions and said he wouldn’t stop running through contenders until he was considered one of the best in world.
“I didn’t really get into this sport for people to worship me or people to bow at my feet,” Woodley said. “I got in this sport to be the best in the world. Right now I’m one of the best.
"When I retire from fighting I want to be pound-for-pound the greatest welterweight that’s even fought in the octagon, and my goal is to keep knocking out guys one by one and get to that point.”
