The name John Gotti is one that will forever grab attention.

The infamous gangster known as “The Teflon Don” sat at the head of the notorious Gambino crime family who ran New York City through the late 70’s and 80’s. And while Gotti Sr. may have died in prison after a RICO play by the FBI put him behind bars for multiple life sentences, the family name still carries with his grandson John Gotti III.

Coming off a highlight reel knockout over Ruslan Volinchii at KTFO 15, Gotti was determined to keep the buzz surrounding him cranked up at high volume. The up-and-coming welterweight squared off with Anthony Wolter in the main event at Triton Fights 1 on Saturday night in Long Island, NY.

Gotti has developed a solid reputation for the power he possesses, but he showed solid patience throughout the opening frame. Wolter peppered his lead leg with kicks, but “The Caged Lion” scored a takedown, and rode out the rest of the opening round from top position.

The second frame was nearly a mirror image of the first as Wolter attacked from the outside until Gotti put him on his back with a powerful takedown. Yet, where Wolter was able to neutralize the New York native’s attacks in the first, he wasn’t as fortunate in the second round as Gotti scored with his ground and pound.

Although Gotti had the lead going into the final round, the opening two stanzas were close enough to say the fight was anyone’s to take in the remaining five minutes. Gotti came out swinging and was able to land some solid shots that forced Wolter to pull guard and go on the defense.

Where the opening 10 minutes saw Wolter show some resistance from the bottom, the final round was all Gotti as he dominated the action from top position. The end result saw Gotti claim the unanimous decision victory and become the Triton Fights Welterweight champion.
