Mike Perry’s holiday season might not have been as sweet as he’d hope it would be after losing to Alan Jouban in December, but with 2016 behind him he’s already focused on the future and he has big plans for the year ahead.

Anyone thinking Perry would be dwelling on his first loss would be sorely mistaken. The UFC welterweight has seemingly taken the defeat in his stride and while he regrets the way it all turned out at UFC Sacramento, he’s already planning how he can get back on track in 2017.

“I’m feeling great man, I’m looking forward to the future,” Perry told Chicago Land Sports. “I’m open-minded and I have new ideas and a new outlook on life. I’m more dangerous than ever.

“I’m looking for the Albert Tumenov fight because he beat Alan Jouban and he’s a tough kid. I’d love to fight Alan again. Even if he chooses to move that way and run that way again, I know how to stop it this time. It really doesn’t matter who, but I want to get that Albert Tumenov fight.”

Having suffered his first loss as a professional, Perry says he’s learned some valuable lessons from his fight against Jouban and believes that he won’t make the same mistakes again the next time he’s in the Octagon.

“I learned that I got more to learn and that I can make simple mistakes,” Perry said. “Everything that week was right. Everything, all my emotions, energy, my workouts, everything was great, but it wasn’t my night and of course I could’ve done more. That showed in the result of me taking the ‘L’.

“The next time I’ll do more, I’ll do whatever it takes and I’ll come out with the ‘W’ man.”

Having debuted at UFC 202 and taken three fights in four months, Perry feels like the holiday season has given him enough respite. With his batteries now recharged, the 25-year-old wants to get back in the Octagon as soon as possible and isn’t in the mindset to wait around.

“I’m getting hungry again, I’ve had three fights in four months and now I’ve taken a step back,” Perry said. “Don’t’ get me wrong, I’m ready to fight again. I’m ready to fight again and I’m training hard. I’ll get back in there if they call now.

“I’m self-managed at this point so I hope I’ve got the contacts and the contacts have got me. I hope they know I’m ready to go, I’m ready to fight and no BS, I’m no games, I’ve straight up all business and I’m all about the crowd, the fans and the sport itself.”

When asked about his goals for 2017, Perry seemed to have a single-track mind—keep climbing up the ranks in the welterweight division and get to a position where he can challenge for the UFC welterweight title.

“I just want to keep climbing man and build on the momentum I’ve had so far,” Perry said. “I can’t let anything slow me down. I want to keep my faith, keep my honesty, and keep my loved ones close to me. I just want to push hard man, push harder than ever and do it again next year and do it again next year.

“I want to be remembered for great amazing fights and being one of the most savage, ruthless, monstrous, dangerous and crazy men to ever have stepped in that Octagon. I want to be the craziest being who ever lived in the history of battle with two hands. I want to be ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry and I want to go down in history and I want it all. I want life lessons too—I just want to be great.”
