SUG 2: Jones vs. Henderson, Tate vs. Eye
Submission Underground 2 is set to be a showdown of epic proportions, as former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones faces off with MMA legend Dan Henderson in a grudge match four years in the making.

The co-main event will also be a high stakes affair, with former UFC and Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Miesha Tate stepping in to face Jessica Eye in a submission-only grappling match. The action kicks off at 2:30 PST live from the Roseland Theater in Portland, Ore. and will stream exclusively live on FloGrappling.com.

Giants Collide

There is no fighter who has been more dominant in the MMA realm than Jon Jones.

The light heavyweight phenom became the youngest champion in UFC history then went on to steamroll a murderer's row of former champions and certified challengers. There was simply no ceiling for Jones' talent inside the cage, until the pound-for-pound king created one with outside of the cage turmoil.

Jones will enter SUG 2 not only looking to take his first step back toward reclaiming his status as king of the fight game, but also eager to settle a score left on the books when Dan Henderson was forced out of their ill-fated matchup at UFC 151 in August of 2012.

The New York native has experienced plenty of ups and downs in the four years that have passed, and he will be looking to notch a win over the former Olympian as the official signal to his comeback.

While Jones may have youth and plenty of accolades on his side, Henderson has created plenty of history in his own right.

The former-Olympic-wrestler-turned-MMA-knockout-artist held world titles in several major promotions throughout his storied career and in the process built what is arguably the best resume in MMA history. Time and time again throughout his two decades competing in mixed martial arts, Henderson proved that even the biggest names were no match for his power.

With his fighting career now officially concluded, Henderson will seek to add one final trophy to an already epic collection. And what bigger name to add to that resume than Jones?

A Rivalry Carries Over Into a New Realm

The main event matchup may have sparked the initial excitement for SUG 2, but the co-main event bout between Miesha Tate and Jessica Eye is drawing its own share of attention.

The former UFC women's bantamweight champion and the scrappy Cleveland native initially met at UFC on Fox 16 in Chicago, and the result was a hard-fought three-round affair. Tate would emerge victorious on the judges' scorecards based on her ability to control the action on both the feet and the canvas.

The Washington State native would eventually go on to win championship gold earlier this year, but she then brought her MMA career to a close after back-to-back defeats inside the Octagon. Tate cited her heart no longer being in the sport as the driving force behind her decision, and SUG 2 marks a new chapter for one of the most prominent fighters in the history of WMMA.

Eye will also come into Portland looking for a turnaround of her own.

After generating solid hype with strong performances over tough competition, the Strong Style representative encountered a rough stretch that would lead her to take a hiatus from competing in MMA. When the opportunity to face Tate in a submission-only affair arose, the always-game Eye immediately jumped on the opportunity.

Training with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic on a daily basis has proven to Eye she can hang with anyone, anywhere at anytime, and jumping into the jiu-jitsu realm is just another example of her love for the ruckus.

The Snowman Cometh

Another name on the SUG 2 lineup that has fans excited is Jeff Monson.

The seasoned heavyweight has forged a lengthy track record of success in both MMA and grappling competitions, and the 45-year-old fighter doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Monson has a decorated pedigree to his credit in submission grappling, as he's won gold medals in ADCC and IBJJF and logged close to 90 bouts as a professional mixed martial artist. When that amount of experience is packaged with a hulking presentation the likes of what Monson brings to the mats, there is always the potential for something special taking place.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Warren Brooks stepped up to face "The Snowman" on short notice, which will be a guaranteed shoot out once things go live Dec. 11.

A Gangster at the Helm

There are a lot of things that can be said about Chael Sonnen, but there isn't a person walking the Earth with air in their lungs who can say the man is not entertaining. It's simple scientific fact anything Sonnen puts his promotional magic behind turns into gold, and SUG 2 figures to be another apple in that basket.

After the promotion's debut installment kicked open the doors of the jiu-jitsu world, "The Gangster from West Linn" decided to come back with something bigger and badder for his hometown crowd. When the tickets sold out in record time, Sonnen waived his hand and actually created more seating for more tickets to be sold.

That's just the type of man Sonnen is, and by damned when that man promises a show, that's what you are going to get.
