At 46 years old, Henderson has had 47 professional fights and will long be remembered in the MMA community. However, Henderson was one of the first great wrestlers to transition into mixed martial arts. Here are some of the highlights of his career.

High School

Henderson made the California state finals in his junior year at Victor Valley high, as his team won the overall state title. The next year, 1988, Henderson placed fifth at the CIF championships. But the peak of his high school days came at the 1988 junior national championships, when we doubled up, taking the crown in both freestyle and greco-roman.

College

Hendo started his NCAA career at Cal State Fullerton. For two years, he wrestled under head coach Dan Lewis. He would then transfer to Arizona State for the 1992 and 1993 seasons, finally qualifying for the national tournament his senior year.

International

Where the future UFC champ would shine is on the senior level in greco. In between his junior and senior years at ASU, Henderson would make the 1992 Olympic team at 82kg.

After graduating from ASU, Hendo had an excellent 1994, making the world team again at 82kg, as well as taking silvers at the Pan Am championships and World Cup.

A fixture on the senior Greco team for several years, Hendo earned himself a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan Am Games and was once again our nation's 82kg Olympian on home soil at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

After his second Olympics, Henderson began his transition into MMA, with his first fight coming in June of 1997. Even still, he was able to wrestle in one final world championships that September.

His final international tournaments were the 1999 and 2000 Pan Am championships, placing third and first respectively.
