The UFC 205 card finally seems to be coming together and it already looks like it’s shaping up to be something special.

After being teased about the possibility last week, UFC president Dana White officially confirmed today that Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler will face off in a welterweight clash at the first-ever UFC event to take place at Maddison Square Garden in New York City.

White confirmed the news to Cleveland 92.3 radio host Anthony Lima this morning while promoting this weekend’s UFC 203 event.

White said that the ink was now dry on the contracts and the fight that many UFC fans have been dreaming of for years has finally been put together.

Cerrone (31-7) will come into the fight having won three in a row at welterweight with wins over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, and Rick Story last month back at UFC 202. Despite recently saying he intended to go back to the lightweight division, it appears Cerrone has been convinced to stay 170 and under the bright lights of Maddison Square Garden on November 12, he will face his stiffest test in the division yet.

The man on the other side of the Octagon that evening, Robbie Lawler (27-11), will be looking to bounce back having lost the UFC welterweight title to Tyron Woodley on July 30. Before dropping his belt, Lawler had looked unbeatable and put together five wins and two title defenses together including the 2015 ‘Fight of The Year’ against Rory MacDonald.

The stage is now set for this dream fight to take place and the winner can expect to be right in the mix of the UFC welterweight title picture when they have their hand raised.
