Cage Combat 29 live from Humble, TX.
It was a battle of champions at Cage Combat 29.
Reigning lightweight titleholder Tim Cormier but his 155-pound strap on the line against the promotion's featherweight king Alonzo Sanchez in a bout that was guaranteed to bring the ruckus. And that's exactly what unfolded on Saturday night.
The gritty Cormier came out looking to push the action but Sanchez countered with power of his own and the damage started to pile up on the lightweight champion's face. Nevertheless, Cormier continued to work his game plan, but Sanchez remained one step ahead throughout. Going into the fourth round Cormier's eye was nearly swollen shut, but that didn't stop him from pressing forward with heat and pressure. Sanchez remained cool, calm and collected throughout, and continued to score when windows of opportunity opened up.
Heading into the fifth and final round the cageside doctor saw all he needed to see and the fight was waived off. Despite Cormier's resistance, Sanchez was awarded the victory, and his second belt under the Cage Combat banner.
