Matt Bessette: 'Blood Gets Me Going'
For some fighters, it just takes getting hit once to get them going. Others hear that music in the arena and their heart rate rises. For Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series headliner, Matt Bessette, blood is what gets him going best.

"Any time I get to scrap and there's even a little bit of blood that is spilt, from me or the other guy, that gets me going." Bessette said in an interview with FloCombat's Top Turtle MMA Podcast.

Bessette's love for blood is something that he believes has always kept him in the mind of the UFC brass. So much so that he never once worried that the call was going to come and he was going to get to fight for the biggest organization in the world.

"I knew I was getting closer and closer with each performance… I'm just going out there and wowing everybody. So it was just a matter of time."

While this fight isn't technically in the UFC (Dana White's Contender Series is actually it's own entity) Bessette sees it as an opportunity with tons of upside. The debut of the show along with other factors all play into him getting the contract to get on the big stage.

"It's the first Contender Series, so everybody is going to be talking about it, I'm headlining (which is a huge deal), and Kurt [Holobaugh] has already fought in the UFC."

While his opponent Kurt Holobaugh's UFC past is an obvious resume builder for Bessette, he doesn't see that as the only benefit of fighting the Titan FC lightweight champion. In addition to having an opponent with a name to build off of, Bessette also loves that Holobaugh's fights feed his thirst for blood.

"They want to make the first episode exciting. So they're like 'What can we do? Get Mr. Excitement himself, Matt Bessette, and Kurt Holobaugh who's never in a fight that doesn't have blood involved."

If everything goes at Bessette expects it, Dana likely won't be disappointed with his choice to get these two to headline.

"It's going to be a good brawl."
