It looks as though the fans' and fighters' complaints have been heard: The previously announced UFC middleweight title fight between champion Michael Bisping and challenger Georges St-Pierre is off.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement to FOX Sports Australia's UFC Fight Week program, which was first reported by MMA Junkie.

"I made this 'GSP' fight -- we did a press conference," White told UFC Fight Week. "The thing was supposed to happen in July. Georges St-Pierre was coming back. Bisping/St Pierre--they both wanted that fight. We asked Yoel (Romero) to step aside. He did. It doesn't look like that fight [St-Pierre vs. Bisping] is gonna happen now."

White added that Romero "definitely deserves a title shot" and that he would be next in line.

The Bisping vs. St-Pierre bout was met with heavy criticism by fans, media and fighters alike, all arguing that top contender Romero was deserving of the world title shot. St-Pierre, a former longtime UFC welterweight champion, has not fought in over three years.

While the UFC did not announce an official date for St-Pierre's return to the cage, it was expected to happen in the summer months, possibly as early as July 8's UFC 213. St-Pierre recently took to Instagram to announce that he wouldn't be able to fight before the late fall or early winter months, which obviously didn't sit well with Bisping or the UFC.

No date has been announced for the Bisping versus Romero bout.
