A high-profile lightweight showdown between former champion Eddie Alvarez and perennial contender Dustin Poirier is in the works for UFC 211, which takes place May 13 in Dallas, Texas.

Alvarez has not competed since November 2016, when he was defeated by Conor McGregor at UFC 205, losing his lightweight championship in the process.

Poirier, meanwhile, comes off a Fight of the Night performance against Jim Miller at UFC 208, where "the Diamond" earned a majority decision victory.

This hot-fire matchup joins an already loaded card in the Lonestar State, as two title fights and a massive welterweight matchup are in place.

At the top of the card, heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic looks to notch his second title defense in a rematch against Junior dos Santos. Previously, dos Santos bested Miocic in a razor-thin decision victory.

In the co-main event, strawweight juggernaut Joanna Jedrzejczyk goes for her fifth title defense against Jessica Andrade.

Also of note, top 170-pound fighters Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia square off in what could determine the next challenger for the welterweight throne.
