There was drama at the weigh-ins yesterday, as fighters for both BAMMA 28 and Bellator 173 took to the scales ahead of the big night. 

Everything looked to be running smoothly, but then we got to the BAMMA 28 main event, and it was announced that Norman Parke had weighed in at 155.8 pounds, thus he was 0.8 pounds over the stipulated championship weight of 155 pounds for his showdown with Paul Redmond.

FloCombat later confirmed with BAMMA officials that the fight between Parke and Redmond would proceed, but with the stipulation that only Redmond could win the title should he win. 

But the drama didn't end there …

Despite media and reporters being present at these weigh-ins, no outlet or journalist begged to ask the question why Shay Walsh and his opponent James McErlean were so far apart in weight when they stepped on the scales at the SSE Arena. 

Walsh had his weight read aloud first, and he was announced as 136 pounds, good to go for the bantamweight fight with a one-pound allowance. 

McErlean followed shortly after, and his weight was 145.8 pounds.

So what went on? FloCombat followed up with Walsh late last evening after watching the tape.

Walsh informed us that both fighters had signed bantamweight bouts agreements and that his opponent, McErlean, had for whatever reason come in on the featherweight limit. 

Walsh was able to tells us, however, that the bout will go ahead subject to McErlean having another weight reading tomorrow where he must be on or below 155 pounds. He also noted he would be financially compensated.

UPDATE: ​Walsh has since informed us that McErlean believed the bout was at featherweight, despite his bout agreement stipulating bantamweight.

FloCombat has reached out to Bellator regarding the change, but the promotion failed to provide an official update as of last evening.
