WATCH: Johny Hendricks Gives Bonkers Media Scrum
The man who won two NCAA Div I National Championships at Oklahoma State University parlayed his skill and work ethic into a championship career in mixed martial arts. 'Bigg Rigg' was controversially edged out by the best fighter to ever compete in the welterweight division in Georges St-Pierre, but then turned around and won the 170-pound crown in an instant classic with Robbie Lawler four months later at UFC 181.
Hendricks' victory over Lawler put him at the top of the mountain in what is arguably the deepest division in the UFC, but it was a moment of glory that wouldn't last long. The heavy-handed former wrestler was defeated by Lawler in the immediate rematch, then went on to drop two of his next three, which includes back-to-back losses on his current run.
Throw in a costly weigh-in mishaps that scratched his bout with Tyron Woodley, and things aren't looking all too great for Hendricks at the current time.
Nevertheless, the man has been championship stock for the majority of his adult life, and Hendricks is confident he has what it takes to turn things around. That particular road begins against Neil Magny at UFC 207 this Friday night in Las Vegas, and Hendricks gave an all-out interview scrum at the event's media day gathering on Wednesday afternoon.
