Will mixed martial arts finally see its first ever high-profile boxing champion successfully make the transition to the world of MMA?

The most infamous case in history, James Toney in 2010, would suggest not, but could a young British fighter be the one to prove all the doubters wrong?
If Chris Eubank Snr is to be believed, his son Chris Eubank Jr. could well be the one to break those barriers down.

The Eubank family are British boxing legends with Eubank Sr. 45-5-2 as a professional and a former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight title holder.
His son, Chris Eubank Jr., is 23-1 and has already held the British middleweight title and WBA super-middleweight interim title.

Eubank S.r was asked on Twitter last evening if he thought that MMA would ever becoming bigger than boxing.

Eubank Sr. responded in a manner that perhaps many would’ve not expected.

So, if Chris Eubank Jr. has nearly twenty years of grappling experience and the hands of a world class boxer, could he be the man to finally bridge the gap between professional boxing and mixed martial arts?

Anything is possible, but for the minute at least, don’t expect Eubank Jr. to be making the transition from one sport to another.

Eubank Jr. still has plenty to accomplish in the world of professional boxing and with high profile fights with the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Kell Brook seemingly on his doorstep, it’s unlikely that next for years at least we will see him trade in the boxing gloves for the 4oz MMA gloves.
