On a Saturday lacking any events from the major combat sports promotions, Warrior Nation Fight Series staves off MMA fans’ desire for fights.

WNFS 42: OktoberFist takes place Sat., Oct. 22 in Sandusky, Ohio, and the fights will be live streamed only on FloCombat.



The 11-fight card kicks off at 6 p.m. CDT, featuring Ohio’s top amateur up-and-comers. Here are three reasons to watch Warrior Nation Fight Series 42.

The Big Men Battle for the Belt

There’s just something special about amateur heavyweights. The quick knockouts, the rock 'em, sock 'em technique, the fear the front row fans have over whether or not the cage wall can support such a massive combined weight—it’s all part of the appeal of watching amateur big men throw down!

At WNFS 42, the heavyweight title is on the line, and reigning champion Kaleb Raymond (4-4) is taking on Jonathan Martin (2-1).

Since losing three straight fights in 2013, Raymond has put together a nice string of wins. The 24-year-old fighter defeated Ben Miller by decision, then submitted Kyle McClain in his most recent victory at WNFS 36.

Martin will come into this fight without the support of the crowd, as Raymond was born and raised in Upper Sandusky. Like the champion, however, the challenger is also riding a two-fight win streak. In his last outing, he submitted Cory Burch in the second round at WNFS 40.

Events like Warrior Nation Fight Series are a throwback.

The shows may not feature the highest level of technique, but they still carry the have same feel as the events during the early days of the sport.

Along with that nostalgic touch, WNFS puts out an extremely high finish rate. During WNFS 41, which you can catch in its full glory here, only one fight went to the judges’ scorecards. Four fights ended with a TKO/KO, and four others were stopped with a tap out.

At WNFS 40, the high finish rate remained constant, and all of its bouts ended before the final bell (and you can watch them all right here). It’s these kinds of exciting fights you won't see anywhere else.
