Whether in the squared circle or inside the cage, Oklahoma native Brandon Groom is all business.
The scrappy grappler broke a one year hiatus from professional wrestling to step back into the world of hand-to-hand combat at Xtreme Fight Night 336 on Saturday night. Groom strapped on the gloves once again to square off with Caanan Grigsby in the co-main event from Tulsa, OK, with the promotion's middleweight title on the line.
Groom has never been a man short of motivation and wasted zero time getting right down to work.
Grigsby certainly had the edge in the striking department and his technical approach controlled the action in the opening round. Nevertheless, a relentless Groom stormed back and turned the kickboxing match into a grind. Groom put Grigsby down time and time again throughout the final two rounds, and his work ethic was enough to earn the unanimous decision victory on the judge's scorecards.
Groom claimed the XFN middleweight title on the strength of a blue collar performance, and then added another chapter to the show by speaking his mind about fellow former pro wrestler CM Punk.
The former WWE superstar recently flopped in his official MMA debut, and Groom had no qualms with letting fans know what a real crossover fighter looks like. All in all it was a great night for Grooms, and here's to hoping he makes MMA his full-time gig.
