There was big news Wednesday for UK MMA--BAMMA heavyweight champion Mark Godbeer has signed a multi-fight deal with UFC.
Godbeer (11-2-0) fights out of Bridgwater, Somerset and is the current 265-pound champion of BAMMA. Godbeer won the title back in June 2015 at BAMMA 21: DeVent vs. Kone when he defeated Paul Taylor via TKO in the second round. Godbeer then went on to defend his title once at BAMMA 25: Champion vs. Champion when he defeated Stuart Austin, again via TKO in the second round.

Shortly following that win over Austin in May, Godbeer was set to appear on the Bellator 158 card that took place in London, England. Unfortunately, following a falling out with the organization following his demotion to the preliminary portion of the show, Godbeer chose to sit out altogether and missed out on a second opportunity fighting in Bellator MMA.
Godbeer's turnaround in fortunes really started two months ago when he signed under a new management company, Duello Sports Management, working with Gokhan Yildizli. Since then, Godbeer has been able to attract new sponsors and on Wednesday signed the biggest contract of his career with the biggest mixed martial organization in the world.

While no opponent has been set for Godbeer's debut, it is expected that he will fight soon and that he is ready to go at the UFC's request. With Godbeer now moving on, he will relinquish his BAMMA title. We have reached out to the organization to understand whether the division will now continue or whether it will dissolve.
