An injury has forced former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman out of his UFC 199 bout with Luke Rockhold.

Sources close to the story confirmed the news with FloCombat on Tuesday afternoon. Twitter user TalkMMA first mentioned the rumor.

Weidman lost the belt to Rockhold in December after twice beating former champion Anderson Silva. Though Rockhold finished Weidman in a one-sided fight, the former champion received an immediate rematch.

No word on who might be tasked to replace Weidman, though Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza—who scored an impressive win over Vitor Belfort last weekend—would be a logical replacement. But top contender Michael Bisping, who scored a win over Silva earlier this year, also threw his name into the hat. The UFC is currently searching for a replacement opponent.

UFC 199 takes place June 4 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. A bantamweight title fight between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber is also scheduled for the card, and former lightweight champion and UFC Hall of Fame member B.J. Penn returns to face Cole Miller.

We'll have more updates on this story as they become available.
